Cliffy’s Legs

Our office dog, Cliffy recently had surgery to take care of a pre-existing issue with his hips and knee. Here’s one of the xrays that shows how truly remarkable it is that he’s been able to be so active for so long.  His owners recount the tale below:

We took him to the vet, who referred us to a specialist, who quickly informed us that Cliffy has bi-lateral hip dysplasia and a fractured knee. In short, he needed some pretty serious surgery. So, on Wednesday, May 25th, a team of surgeons preformed an operation on Cliff that reinforced his knee joint with metal wire. Although the operation only took around 45-minutes, Cliff will probably be in recovery for at least two months and require lots of care and physiotherapy.

Once his knee has properly healed, Cliff will require another serious operation for his hip problems. The doctors plan to remove the top part of both his femurs, which are currently malformed and grinding against his poorly formed hip sockets. Unlike large dogs, a small breed does not require hip sockets to function. Apparently this is a fairly standard procedure for small dogs and they will often walk out of the surgery without issue.

Cliffy’s owners never gave up on him and when told of the cost for his surgery, even had people suggest that it would be best to put him down.

He’s back in the office and better than ever. The fur on his little shaved leg is growing back in and his stitches have been removed, but his dear furparents are left with some costs from this operation and would appreciate any small donation that you could make to add up to help them pay for these expenses.
