Wandering thoughts

On my mind lately:

  • Japan
  • An upcoming sleep deprivation study I’m going to undertake and the idea that I will spend the night before the exam blogging to ensure that I don’t fall asleep. Either that or I’ll watch all of the “Nightmare on Elm Street” films.
  • Figuring out how to balance my online participation. I struggle with beating myself up over all the time I spend online compared to how much time I spend practicing.
  • Afternoon meditation sessions at the local Shambhala Centre and how much I love the mid-day break during my workday. More centres should to this kind of thing.
  • Anticipation for Noah Levine’s new book, “The Heart of the Revolution” Can’t wait!!!
  • Participation in a monthly book club for Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche’s “Wild Awakening” - Dense but tasty like good chocolate cake.
  • Mail Chimp and how easy it is to create newsletters. If you’re looking for a way to give back to your sangha or favourite author or teacher, offer to create a newsletter for them. It’s just that easy!
  • This podcast featuring the Ven.Robina Courtin speaking about happiness and its causes. It’s a nice gateway podcast for that lady in your life that is looking for an Oprah-rific chat about Buddhism in real-speak. I don’t mean to downplay the content in anyway, rather think it is truly a nice recording that speaks to those who are interested in spirituality and  looking for a bit more details on Buddhism. We all enter the stream from somewhere.

On sleep deprivation : the longest I have ever went without sleep was 72 hours. We were a about 150 soldiers in training. At the end of 72 hours it was really strange to see who and how some people started to hallucinate. According to my daughter the Paranormal Activity movies also promote sleeplessness.Good luck on your lack of sleep.
