A few articles, links, videos and interviews have passed my path and I wanted to share them here rather than hoard them in my tabs where there of no real use to anyone. I’m going to try to make this a regular thing so if you have any news you’d like to share, please email me or leave a comment.

 

School violence: Can loving kindness make a difference? via The Shambhala Sun SunSpace

As public school teachers, we are encouraged to model empathy and kindness, but in all of our training, we are rarely taught how to intentionally cultivate an open heart of kindness — particularly through contemplative practice. Fortunately, there is a growing number of programs which are making steps in that direction. It is my prayer that it is only a matter of time before we all practice more kindness.

I came across The Berkeley Initiative for Mindfulness in Law which looks pretty interesting. I’d love to know if there are any other such initiatives out there for law practitioners and students and also for politicians. Drop me a line if you do please.

The Berkeley Initiative for Mindfulness in Law is committed to advancing this emerging work, and providing a platform for dialogue, research and teaching that connects mindfulness and law practice.

On that note, there’s also a group on Facebook for Buddhist Lawyers.

Via Rev. Danny Fisher  comes a video interview on his Patheos blog Off the Cushion. with Dr. Michaela Haas who has a stellar list of credentials including international reporter, lecturer, consultant, author (with an upcoming book to be released by Snow Lion Publications) and board member of Lotus Outreach — the group founded by Buddhist teacher Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche with the goal of “ensuring the education, health and safety of at-risk and exploited women and children in the developing world.”
