‘Unmistaken Child’ - A movie about “a Tibetan monk’s search for his reincarnated master’

As a means to balance all of the gory films I’ve been watching these days (Yes, ‘Inglorious Bastards’ and French horror films- I’m talking to you!),  I decided to check out the movie ‘Unmistaken Child’ distributed by the ever so great Adam Yauch/Beastie Boys company Oscilloscope Laboratory.

The film centers around the four year long search for the reincarnation of Geshe Lama Konchog, who passed away in 2001 and was revered for his kindness by the local villagers who referred to him as “Grandfather Lama”. His long-time attendant, Tenzin Zopa was sent off to locate Geshe Lama Konchog’s reincarnation at the behest of the Dalai Lama.

It’s fascinating to watch Tenzin travel throughout Tibetan villages in search for a child  who displays similar characteristics and behaviours of that of his beloved master. There is so much dedication, love and patience displayed by Tenzin in his desire to find the reincarnation of Geshe Lama Konchog and he really demonstrates that this wish to find his master isn’t out of just wanting to have him return to his life for selfish reasons, but more from the “bodhisattvic” wish for all sentient beings to be of beniefit from the continuation of his teachings via this junior sized vessel.

I usually measure a film as good if I’ve cried during it so this one gave me a few crying jags and I would recommend that you check it out.

Feel free to check out the Facebook Fan Page for ‘Unmistaken Child’ if you are into that kind of thing.

this is in my Netflix cue. This is the 2nd good review that I’ve heard, so I think I’ll bump it up a few spots.

Everything that Oscilliscope Labs is putting out is well worth watching. I loved ‘Beautiful Losers’ so if you like art or cool people creating art without giving a $#%#, then it’s another to put on the Netflix list.
