Random Linkage: Intimate Procrastination, Videos, Bingo, Buddhist Tattoos and Dead Fish
2014 April 25
It’s been busy as usual over here at Full Contact Enlightenment Headquarters but never too busy for me to be dawdling my life away on the internet. So here’s some things that I’ve been checking out:
- I’m currently reading Pat Enkyo O’Hara’s latest book ‘Most Intimate- A Zen Approach to Life’s Challenges’ and continuing to enjoy my exploration of Zen books. It’s a real-world book in that she gets into the areas of life which can offer up so both much muck and so much joy - work, anger, sex - it’s all in here. My goal is to finish reading this book this weekend and to get a review of it up next week. Please hold me to this folks.
- I haven’t watched this yet, but do very much plan on it. Here’s a video interview that The Indie Spiritualist aka Chris Gross conducted with Guy Newland - noted Tibetan Buddhist scholar, teacher and author. I’m pretty stoked to watch it as I really, really enjoy Guy’s books and they get into some discussion on topics such as emptiness, the Buddhist concept of the Two Truths and a bit of chatter on punk rock. Sign me up (after I finish reading the aforementioned book of course).
- Here’s a bit of Mindfulness Misconception Bingo courtesy of the Centre for Mindfulness Studies.
- Where do you weigh in on the question of ‘Buddha Tattoos — An Homage or a Sign of Disrespect?’ via The ID Project / via The Wisdom Blog
- Do read ‘Saying Goodbye to Fina’s Fish’ over at Somewhere in Dhamma. Please do.
Peace out!

Your gifs made me dizzy. I like tattoos. I have one and plan to get more as soon as I pay off my bills. I don’t think body art is disrespectful. It’s just art. I think we should not take ourselves too seriously anyway.
I look forward to your book review and plan to add it to my reading list. I never heard of Chris Gross or Guy Newland, so I plan to learn more about them. Brad Warner was the first “punkish” Zen teacher I ever read about. I like it that there are contemporary thinkers because I seem to relate to them more. I do like reading the “masters” but sometimes I don’t understand what they are expressing.
Namaste!
Yeah. Gif’s can indeed cause dizziness and headaches! There are some that are real doozies!
What is your tattoo of? (hopefully not a gif!)
I like a good balance of traditional reads with the newer teachers/writers just to ensure I’m getting a ‘balanced diet’. Most cite the sutras or the teachings so I don’t feel like it’s too much junk food for my mind
Guy Newland really gets into the deep stuff so I quite enjoy his writing and I dig out his books quite often to help support my studies. He’s pretty ‘hardcore’ in that he’s very well-versed in the Dharma and his writing is less autobiographical.
That reminds me that I do need to watch that video after all. French homework has gotten in the way!
