Montreal Buddhist events

There’s so much going on in Montreal over the next few months so I wanted to share it on this blog.

Ven. Lama Sonam Rinpoche will be delivering a series of talks and teachings - (Translated from Tibetan into French & English)

Friday May 14th, 2010 - 7:30 to 9:30 pm
Public Talk: Compassionate Mind - Everyone strives to be happy. In this modern time, there are many trappings that derail us from achieving this goal. The cultivation of compassion can release us from invariable causes of suffering into complete and spacious freedom of true happiness.

Saturday May 15th, 2010- 7:30 to 9:30 pm and Sunday May 16th, 2010- 1:00 to 3:00 pm
Buddhist Teachings: The Seven Point Mind Training by Chekawa - The root text of the powerful instructions on “mind training” or in tibetan “lojong”. Lojong contains the essence of the entire Tibetan Buddhist practice. Reflecting and working with the 7 Points of Mind Training will enrich everyone’s experience.

Address: Equilibrium Yoga Centre, 4812, St-Laurent Blvd, Suite 101 (suggested donate $10 per session- but arrangements can be made)

KAGYU MONLAM CANADA
Montreal Quebec - June 24 - 27, 2010
Presented by Karma Kagyu Association Canada
Hosted by Rigpe Dorje Centre Montreal

The main purpose of the Great Prayer Festival is to pray for the long life of all the holy Gurus of all traditions, for the survival and spreading of the Dharma in the mind and hearts of all sentient beings, and for global peace. The communal prayers, offered with strong faith and devotion, help to overcome obstacles to peace and generate conditions that are conducive for everyone around the world to live in harmony.

Under the guidance and direction of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmpa, Orgyen Trinley Dorje, the International Kagyu Monlam takes place annually in Bodhgaya, India at the sacred site of the Grand Stupa and the Mahabodhi tree, where Lord Buddha attained Enlightenment.

It is His Holiness’ wish that Kagyu Monlams be held in many other countries in order to benefit more people. In His Holiness’ words: “Like the light of sun, moon and stars, may love, compassion and wisdom shine forth. May they strike every single living being and dispel the darkness of ignorance, attachment and hatred that has lurked for ages in their being.”

Following in the tradition of countries such as Malaysia, Hong Kong and Indonesia (Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in Woodstock, New York in July 2010), the first Canadian Kagyu Monlam is scheduled in Montreal, Quebec June 2010 under the guidance of the Karma Kagyu Association Canada:
