Heidi Minx interviews Tibetan tattoo artist & musician Tamding

Check out this great interview that Heidi Minx from Built on Respect has posted with a Tibetan tattoo artist and musician named Tamding.

It’s so interesting to hear his story of being in exile in Dharmsala, his contribution to the Free Tibet movement and his philosophy on tattooing “Free Tibet” on folks for free.

Heidi is so inspirational in bringing these stories. She’s the Boddhisatvic Barbara Walters of Buddhism and it’s AWESOME that she’s putting together these features.

This is Part 1 of the series so I’ll be sure to post the next installment once I see that it’s live.

  1. I was recently asked if i knew of a tattooist in Dharmsala, in an interview for the ‘Tattoo life’ magazine, the article is due out at the end of November 09.
Tamding can only be this tattooist, so i was happy to watch the interview here to have his existence confirmed.
I was particularly interested to hear what he had to say about the taboo of tattoos in the Tibetan culture, as i am occasionally confronted with this issue. because of my work as an artist in Tibetan calligraphy: http://www.tashimannox.com I feel a responsibility in how Sacred mantras and Iconography is used as tattoos, you maybe interested to know of my contribution to the tattoo world, through my other website http://www.inkessential.com

Glad you found the interview that Heidi did helpful. She’s a gem… Do get in touch with her if you haven’t already spoken with her.
