Toronto : Rebel Buddha’s headed your way

2010 October 27

The rock and roll Rebel Buddha roadshow will soon be hitting Toronto and I sure hope to see you there.

Join Buddhist leaders Dzogchen Ponlop, author of Rebel Buddha, Mitra Tyler Dewar and Polly Young-Eisendrath at the The Bram & Bluma Appel Salon for a multimedia day of discovery around key questions of spiritual life, religion and culture.

Throughout the day, in different formats – teachings, music and video, contemplative exercises, discussion –  participants and panelists will explore the current state and the future of Western Buddhism, and the experience of the modern-day traveler on this road to freedom.

The Rebel Buddha book launch is a unique opportunity to hear from some of the most compelling voices on the North American Buddhist scene and to join with them to explore and investigate key questions of spiritual life and meaning:

  • How can a buddha also be a rebel?
  • If we’re all born to be free, what is true freedom?
  • What does it mean to be on the road to freedom in this day and age?
  • How do our cultural and religious concepts work into the mix?

The schedule will be organized but fluid, with opportunities for participants to share ideas and creative inspirations around these questions throughout the day. The program features a morning presentation by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, and an afternoon presentation by Mitra Tyler Dewar.  A lively concluding discussion will add Buddhist leader Polly Young-Eisendrath.

When: November 20, 2010 Time: 10:00 am to 5:30 pm

Venue: The Bram & Bluma Appel Salon Toronto Reference Library

Address: 789 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON, Canada, M4W 2G8

I hope there’s a stop in LA in the future. I’ll be out there by then and I’d love to see DP speak. In the meantime, if I could get to Toronto, I’d totally go. : )
