I came home today to find the May 2009 issue of the Shambhala Sun tucked into my creaky mailbox and instantly smiled when I saw the cover.
Oh what happiness there is to be found on Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche’s face beaming out from the glossy cover page. Then I started reading the article and couldn’t help but smile as he recounted a story comparing the urine that obscured his bladder after having a bit too much water to drink during his dharma talks to that of our basic nature, our basic goodness, our stainless intellect. A quote from the article in this issue stood out for me in this circumstance.
“At any given moment, you can choose to follow the chain of thoughts, emotions and sensations that reinforce a perception of yourself as vulnerable and limited – or you can remember that your true nature is pure, unconditioned, and incapable of being harmed.”
Whew!
