Well I’ve been taking Buddhist Studies courses through the local Nalandabodhi group for a few months now and had my first test as part of the Hinayana study path this past week.
Boy do I ever feel rusty! I guess now having read the materials, it’s time to let them marinate a bit. Goodness knows I can rattle off the Four Noble Truths and can totally get behind them but some of the concepts are pretty mind-boggling.
It was nice to engage in debate with the group in a non-threatening and supportive way. That’s one cool thing about Buddhism- only you know if you have the right answer.
As an aside, I finished watching the documentary ‘Metal – A Headbanger’s Journey‘ and really liked it lots. It was interesting to hear the film-maker’s take on the link between metal and religion/satanism. Hearing members of the band ‘Cannibal Corpse’ speak of writing lyrics about death and objects such as decomposing bodies struck me as similar to meditations done in the charnel grounds.
