You need to find an ophthalmologist who's opinion you respect and believe, and go with their recommendations. You've got two options:

1. Get the laser procedure. This will decrease your chances of developing acute glaucoma (decreased vision). It MAY increase your chance of developing cataracts later on ( a small risk).

2. Don't get the laser procedure. This increases your risk of going into acute glaucoma with sudden vision loss, or chronic vision loss over the decades to come.

It is good that you are educating yourself so thouroughly on the subject.

The laser procedure is relatively benign and only takes 5 minutes. Here's a video of it being performed (from the perspective of the eye doctor):

laser peripheral iridotomy video

Good luck!
