This time last year I went in to see my eye doctor for my regular checkup and found out that I have narrow angles. Go figure. I went to see an eye specialist who wanted to do a laser iridotomy to prevent glaucoma. Of course I went for a second opinion and was told I’m too young to go for this surgery as it can cause cataracts later in life.
Fast forward a year and I’m in the office of a new eye doctor who is telling me that I NEED to have this surgery done…. no ifs ands or buts.
Rewind to last year when I was googling every page available on the net to read about narrow angles / laser iridotomy.
Fast forward a year and whaddya think I’m doing now?
You need to find an ophthalmologist who’s opinion you respect and believe, and go with their recommendations. You’ve got two options:
1. Get the laser procedure. This will decrease your chances of developing acute glaucoma (decreased vision). It MAY increase your chance of developing cataracts later on ( a small risk).
2. Don’t get the laser procedure. This increases your risk of going into acute glaucoma with sudden vision loss, or chronic vision loss over the decades to come.
It is good that you are educating yourself so thouroughly on the subject.
The laser procedure is relatively benign and only takes 5 minutes. Here’s a video of it being performed (from the perspective of the eye doctor):

Good luck!
